1. Ms Courtney, thanks for providing the correct version of the incident. This should have never happened. This conflict was a result of one side imposing its will on the other. There are warriors on both sides. One side is enforcing the freedom of speech and the other side is trying to protect the honor of a prophet with a following of 1.6 billion people after it has been already violated by the Persian puppet Imams of the Abbasid era.
2. The immigrants coming in the western countries have unrealistic expectations from the non-Muslim host nations that their religious values will be respected. Non-compatibility of the western core values with the Muslim values have been a major source of frustration, which sometimes manifests itself in violence. [I remember when I came to the US as a student 53 years ago my very kind and honorable host offered me a breakfast of eggs and bacon, which of course I refused to eat, and they understood.]
3. One can argue on either side how this could have been prevented. Part of the responsibility lies with the teacher who should have known better than to present this highly volatile topic in a classroom with Muslim students. Just asking the Muslims student to look away or leave the classroom was not enough.
