Aya Sofia, Turkey

Assalaamu Alaykum;

JazakAllahu Khairan brothers Dr. Shabbir, Ahsan Syed, Albdul Sattar Gazzali, Irfan Rydhan, Motie Omari and others I might have missed for stating the historical facts and true analysis of changing the status of Ayasofya From MUSEUM BACK TO A MOSQUE (I don't normally capitalize anything but in this case I am doing it because when you read all these critics, you get the impression that as if the Ayasofya was being converted from a current church to a mosque!).

The merits of the case in terms of Islamic Jurisprudence (Fiqh) has been explained by Dr. Zakir.

Looking at the reactions that oppose the change of status of the Ayasofya, it is clear that the underlying reason is mainly political and related to strong opposition to (for some hatred for) President Erdogan.

I see a couple of reasons:
1. What he has been doing in the Middle East and in Northern Africa (stepping on the toes of some European powers along with Russia)
2. Not allowing little Sheikhdoms like the murderers UAE's MBZ, and KSA's MBS and Egyptian dictator Sisi) to wipe off the Muslim Brotherhood from the maps!

That's what is mainly fueling the reaction.
I don't mind, in fact, expect the reactions from certain circles. But is it a little more difficult to explain the reactions from certain Muslim circles?
I think, in addition to the political undercurrent, I see an element of Colonial Mentality! (we should NOT take on the "masters", they are all very powerful, they will unleash attacks on us, like old crusades, etc)

Finally, I would like to point you to a link in which a Christian (Father Manuel) talks about the conversion of masjids/mosques by the Israelis in Palestine. He mentions quite a few, and later makes reference to the conversion of Ayasofya to a Mosque by Turkiye.
A Palestinian friend shared it with me. Some of you might have seen it. It is in Arabic (I hope there is an English translation somewhere on the web), but I was able to understand most of what he was saying.
