Dear Dr. Shabbir,
Hurricane Dorian is fast approaching Florida, and many areas have already begun to feel the storm's effects. We urge you to take precautions immediately to ensure that you and your family are safe during the storm.
If you haven't already, gather your emergency supplies, and put important documents like insurance policies in a waterproof container. Pack all medications and other essential items, including pet supplies, and be prepared to evacuate if the orders are given to do so. Be sure your batteries are charged in lanterns and radios, prepare your food and water supplies, fill your car's gas tank, and remember that bank ATM services could be disrupted in an emergency situation.
When the storm quickens, go to the safest place in the house, preferably a central room away from windows or exterior doors. Keep a battery-powered radio with you for updates and alerts.
Avoid driving during the storm, and never drive through a flooded area. Storm surge is the most dangerous part of a hurricane.
